I have always been amazed by botanical drawings and how so much detail can be captured in one single petal. I never gave drawing flowers a real attempt because I was incredibly intimidated by all of their folds and subtle characteristics. I also have never been the type of artist who can work very quickly and I thought that if I wasn’t able to draw something immediately, then I probably just wasn’t that good at it. It wasn’t until my first botanical drawing class in 2016 that I realized in order to understand the subject, I needed to spend more time with it. It was almost as though I had finally been given permission to slow down. To really understand the subject, I needed to spend hours and hours of practice.

The way I create these Tiny Flower Drawings is by spending several hours drawing each one by hand in graphite, never tracing or using a stencil, and making sure everything is in the right place. Of course it would make the process much quicker if they were traced, but I would be missing out on practice and they certainly would lose that unique quality that makes them so special!

What I love the most about these tiny artworks is that they are incredibly versatile for collecting. Each drawing is no more than 3.5 inches tall/wide, they can stand on their own to add a splash of charm to a room, be hung on the wall in a collection to create a larger piece of artwork, or they can be used to fill smaller areas on a gallery wall with other works for an eclectic look.
